
Rosie Perez, born Rosa Maria Perez 7 September, 1964, is an American choreographer and actress. Her breakthrough was with Tina's role in Do the Right Thing (1989), and then White Men Can't Hop (1992). Perez's performance as Tina , in Fearless (1993) was rewarded with her an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress. Perez's leading roles in films include It Could Happen to You (1994) and The Road to El Dorado(2000), Pineapple Express (2007), as well as Birds of Prey (2018). She also won three Primetime Emmy Award nominations (in 1990, 1994 and) in addition to another Emmy nomination (2020-present) for her work as The Flight Attendant. She also has appeared in Broadway productions, including The Ritz and Frankie and Johnny in the Clair de Lune and Fish in the Dark. She was also a co-host on the ABC talk show The View during the series in its 18th season. She was a graduate of Grover Cleveland High School in Ridgewood, Queens. The year 1999 was the year her mother was living in poverty at Woodside Houses when she died due to AIDS-related issues.
