Taylor Swift is that rarest of pop phenomenons: a superstar who managed to seamlessly transition from country to the mainstream making her an iconic popular icon, and sweeping the world in the process. Swift left her heritage in country music like a second-skin and showed that she had the best pop sensibility of the time. Swift was the only singer/songwriter who knew how to be a part of the trending zeitgeist and take it on the road. Swift's talents are evident in some of the first songs she released, most notably the Neodue Tim McGraw. But on her second album Fearless released in 2008 Swift could identify her true identity and gain an audience that was large. Fearless wound up having considerable reach not just in the U.S. where it racked the record with six platinum singles, on the strength of the Top Ten hits Love Story and the hit single You Belong with Me but throughout the world performing particularly well within Australia, U.K. Canada and Australia. Swift took off to the peak of stardom with Speak Now. Through her next three albums, Red (2012) 1989 (2004) and Reputation (2017), Swift's popularity grew and she found herself in the world of pop music where it was clear that she was a part of. Although she slowed down her work with folklore and Evermore released in 2020, she was nevertheless in the forefront of pop music.
